Updated over 3 months ago

Keeping your Insta360 camera up to date with the latest firmware is crucial for ensuring optimal performance and unlocking new features. Thankfully, the process of checking for and updating the firmware on your Insta360 camera is a simple one, thanks to the Insta360 app. In this process, we'll walk through the steps to check for a firmware update on your camera, as well as how to update the firmware to the latest version using the app.

Checking for a Firmware Update:

  • Open the Insta360 app on your mobile device and connect it to your Insta360 camera via Wi-Fi.

  • Tap on the "Settings" icon in the bottom right corner of the app's home screen.

  • Scroll down and under the "Device Settings", you will see the “Firmware version” option to see information about your current firmware version.

  • If a firmware update is available, you will see a notification at the top of the screen. Tap on it to proceed with the update.

Updating the Firmware:

  • Make sure your camera is fully charged before updating the firmware.

  • Follow the steps above to check for a firmware update and tap on the notification to proceed.

  • Tap on the "Download" button to download the firmware update.

  • Once the download is complete, tap on the "Update" button to start the firmware update process.

  • Do not turn off the camera or close the app during the update process, as this may cause the update to fail.

  • Once the update is complete, the camera will automatically restart and the new firmware version will be displayed in the "About" section of the app.

Apart from using the Insta360 app, there are a few other methods for updating the firmware on an Insta360 camera:

  1. Insta360 Studio: Insta360 Studio is a desktop application that can be used to update the firmware on your Insta360 camera. Simply connect your camera to your computer via USB cable, open Insta360 Studio, and follow the on-screen instructions to update the firmware.

  2. SD Card / TF Card: You can also update the firmware on your Insta360 camera by downloading the firmware file from the Insta360 website onto a microSD card, inserting the card into your camera, and then turning on the camera. The camera will automatically detect the firmware update on the card and prompt you to proceed with the update.

  3. Manual Firmware Update: In some cases, it may be necessary to manually update the firmware on your Insta360 camera. This involves downloading the firmware file from the Insta360 website, connecting your camera to your computer via USB cable, and manually transferring the firmware file to the camera's internal storage.
