Simplifying Project Location with Auto-Fetching Addresses

Project Onboarding V2 streamlines the process of creating new projects. This article explains how the system automatically fetches location details and address suggestions to expedite the onboarding process.

Automating Location Details

The project details page now features a map view to simplify specifying your project's location. This functionality offers several benefits:

How it Works

There are three ways to specify your project's location on the map:

  1. Clicking on the Map: Simply click on the desired project location on the map. The system will automatically fetch the corresponding address details and populate the address fields.

  2. Entering Latitude & Longitude: If you know the project's precise coordinates, you can enter them in the search bar on the map. The system will then locate the specified coordinates and populate the address fields accordingly.

3. Typing the Address: Begin typing the project address in the search bar. The system will provide suggestions based on your input. Selecting the correct suggestion will automatically populate the address fields.

Utilizing Google Maps API

Project Onboarding leverages the Google Maps API to retrieve address information. In most cases, the API will successfully provide the complete address based on the selected location. This includes:

  • Street Address (Line 1 & 2)

  • City

  • State

  • Country

  • Zip Code

Pre-Populated Address Fields

Upon selecting a location or choosing a suggestion, the system will pre-populate the following address fields:

  • Street Address (Line 1 & 2)

  • Latitude & Longitude (for reference)

Editable Address Fields

The City, State, Country, and Zip Code fields will be non-editable, as they are derived from the map location. However, both address line fields (Line 1 & 2) are editable. This allows you to make any necessary adjustments to the pre-populated address.

Incomplete Address Information (Rare Case)

In rare instances, the Google Maps API might not be able to provide the complete address details or it would be shown as ‘Unknown’ although the address is accurate and a few countries such as UAE do not have Zip code and in such cases Zip code will be shown as ‘Unknown’. However, it will still populate the City, State, Country, and Zip Code fields. In such cases, you'll be prompted to manually enter the missing address details (Line 1 & 2).

We hope this explanation clarifies how auto-fetching location details and address suggestions streamline the project onboarding process in Project Onboarding.
