Managing Categories and Stages
Updated over 3 weeks ago

This article explains how to manage existing categories after they have been saved. You'll learn how to view category details, reorder categories, and duplicate them.

Viewing Category Details:

Once a category is saved, it will appear in a list view. This list provides an overview of each category, including its name, associated stages, and color.

Reordering Categories:

You can change the order of categories in the list by dragging and dropping them. Simply click and hold on to a category, then drag it up or down to the desired position. This allows you to prioritize our group categories as needed for your workflow.

Duplicating a Category:

You can create a copy of an existing category using the "Duplicate" function. This can be useful when you need a similar category with minor modifications, saving you the time of creating a new one from scratch.

When you duplicate a category:

  • A new category is created with the name "original category name". For example, if you duplicate a category called "Framing," the new category will be named "Framing (1)". If "Framing (1)" already exists, it will be named "Framing (2)", and so on.

  • The duplicated category will have the exact same stages as the original category.

  • The color field for the duplicated category will be automatically populated with a unique color that is not already in use by another category. This helps ensure visual distinction between categories

Accessing Stage Configuration:

After a category is added to your project, its predefined stages will be automatically populated. You can then customize these stages to fit your specific needs.

You have several options for modifying existing stages:

  • Renaming: You can change the name of a stage to better reflect its purpose.

  • Duplicating: You can create a copy of a stage. The duplicated stage will be named automatically as "name(1)", "name(2)", and so on, if the original name or "name(1)" etc. already exists.

  • Deleting: You can remove a stage if it's no longer needed.

  • Changing Color: You can assign a different color to a stage for visual organization. If you attempt to select a color that is already in use by another stage, a message "This color is in use, please select another color" will appear when hovering over the color selection.

  • Rearranging: You can change the order of stages by dragging and dropping them within the list. This allows you to represent the correct sequence of steps.

Adding Stages:

You can add new stages to a category, but only from a predefined list of available stages. If you attempt to add a stage that already exists within that category, it will be added with an incremented number in parentheses, such as "name(1)", "name(2)", and so on, to distinguish it from the existing stage. This helps prevent duplicate stage names within the same category.
