BIM requirements
For NWD files:
We recommend sharing a single/internal coordinated (or federated) NWD model file that exclusively contains elements related to construction. Given that NWD files are non-editable, including extraneous elements will lengthen the onboarding and processing time.
For brownfield projects, such as school, industrial plant, or campus expansions, please limit the NWD model to elements concerning new construction only, and exclude any elements from the old structures or any new non-construction elements.
If this isn't feasible for brownfield projects, we suggest sharing a coordinated Revit model file instead.
The definitions for BIM elements and Schedule WBS items should align with the needs of progress analytics.
NWD files less than 1 GB work best in the BIM Viewer. Bigger files will slow down the BIM viewer or lead to browser crashes.
In more complex BIM models - non-essential elements exist, which you may not require for monitoring or project execution. These extraneous elements will result in data processing delays for progress analytics.
Remove unnecessary categories and/or elements - viz. Furniture, accessories, etc. A simple thumb rule is to remove all the elements that are not architectural, structural, MEPF elements, and/or elements that you don't wish to monitor progress.
Please ensure that the element attributes are well defined, viz. Floor level, category information, etc.
Additionally, before sharing the NWD file, please unhide all elements to check and ensure it does not contain any unnecessary items. It shouldn’t show any external structures or elements.
If the area of interest is a smaller area within a Building or Floor, request to either share an NWD file that only has the elements corresponding to the area of interest or share a coordinated Revit model.
While sharing a coordinated NWD model, please ensure that all source files are either Revit but not DWG files or any other BIM software. If DWG files or any other BIM software are used, element & attribute extraction wouldn't be possible for such cases which would result in inaccurate progress analytics.
Track3D currently doesn't support Saved Viewpoints in NWD files. Therefore, we suggest deleting these viewpoints before exporting the NWD file from Navisworks.
For Revit files:
We recommend sharing a coordinated (or federated) Revit model file that exclusively contains elements related to the construction
While sharing Revit files, It is important to recognize that linked files associated with a Revit coordinated model are not actually stored within the Revit file itself. Consequently, when you share a Revit coordinated model containing linked files (without sharing the linked files too) to Track3D, those linked files will not be visible in the BIM viewer. Those linked files also need to be shared.
