Updating your Camera Firmware

Keeping your Insta360 camera up to date with the latest firmware is crucial for ensuring optimal performance and unlocking new features. In this process, we'll walk through the steps to check for a firmware update on your camera, as well as how to update the firmware to the latest version using the app.

Firmware Update:

To ensure optimal camera performance, regularly update its firmware. Always ensure the camera has at least 20% battery charge before initiating an update.

Via Insta360 App Steps to update Insta 360 camera’s firmware version:

  • Download the Insta360 app from the App Store or Play Store. Open the app and connect your Insta360 camera by clicking on camera icon in bottom menu.

  • Once connected, click on profile icon and go to ‘Firmware Version’ under Device Settings.

  • Click ‘Device Firmware Info’ and then ‘Update Firmware’. Connect your camera back to Track3D’s app and continue the capture.

Via Computer:

  • Power on camera

  • Connect camera to your computer using a USB Type-C cable and select "USB Mode."

  • Download the latest firmware file ("Insta3604FW.bin") from the official Insta360 website.

  • Copy the downloaded firmware file to the root folder of your camera .

App Update Troubleshooting: If an app-based firmware update fails, verify the following conditions and retry:

  • Camera is in close proximity to your phone.

  • The Insta360 app remains open and active (not exited or minimized).

  • Your phone has a strong and stable network connection.

    Universal Firmware Update Steps

    1. Charge camera battery above 30%.

    2. Use a good MicroSD card (U3 / V30 recommended).

    3. Download the latest firmware .bin file for your camera model.

    4. Insert SD card into the computer.

    5. Copy the firmware file to the ROOT folder of the SD card.

    6. Safely eject the SD card.

    7. Power OFF the camera.

    8. Insert the SD card into the camera.

    9. Power ON the camera.

    10. Camera will auto-detect firmware and begin updating.

    11. Wait 30 seconds to 3 minutes.

    12. Camera reboots automatically after update.

    13. Verify version in:

    Settings > About Camera > Firmware Version

    - Uses MicroSD

    Insta360 X4

    Insta360 X5

    Insta360 ONE RS

    If Update Fails

    1. Ensure file is in the root folder.

    2. Do not rename the firmware file.

    3. Delete old firmware files.

    4. Battery above 30%.

    5. Re-download firmware.

    Recommended Flow

    Format SD Card -> Download Firmware -> Copy .bin File -> Insert into Camera -> Power ON -> Wait for Update -> Restart -> Check Version
