Managing Low Memory During Insta360 Captures in the Track3D App

Updated over a week ago

Overview:

To ensure a smooth and uninterrupted experience during 360 image or video captures, the Track3D mobile app now includes proactive memory management features. These enhancements are designed to help users avoid capture failures due to insufficient available RAM on their mobile devices.

Before beginning a capture, the app automatically checks the current available RAM. If the available memory falls between 500MB and 1GB, users will receive a helpful message indicating the estimated duration for which they can safely capture data.

However, if the RAM drops below 500MB, the app will block the capture process and display a clear message prompting the user to close background applications and free up memory. This ensures that users do not begin a capture they are unlikely to complete successfully.

While a capture is in progress, the app continuously monitors device memory in real-time. If the available RAM falls below 100MB, the system immediately intervenes to prevent data loss.

The app will automatically stop the capture and initiate the save process. This is paired with a full-screen popup alert, a short vibration (haptic feedback), and a voice message stating: "Memory is critically low. Capture is stopping now."

After the capture is safely saved, the user will be shown a summary message confirming that the data has been stored due to low memory conditions.

To protect the device from recurring low-memory crashes, the app will not allow a new capture to start until available RAM returns above 400MB.

These changes aim to improve the reliability of the capture process, reduce frustration from mid-capture failures, and provide clear and timely alerts to users when device memory becomes a concern.
