Overlaying Floorplans on Orthomosaics

Overview

The Floorplan Overlay feature allows you to display project design files directly on top of an orthomosaic within the Track3D viewer. By overlaying planned layouts onto current drone imagery, you can visually compare design intent with actual site conditions without switching between multiple applications.

This feature helps teams:

  • Compare planned and actual construction progress.

  • Identify layout deviations early.

  • Verify design alignment on-site.

  • Improve collaboration between field teams.

Supported File Types

  • PDF

  • DXF

  • DWG

  • Shapefile-compatible vector layers

Design files are automatically retrieved from the project's uploaded Design Files.

Opening a Floorplan Overlay

  1. Open your project. Select the level and navigate to the drone image viewer and then click on the Orthomosaic map Viewer.

2. Turn Overlay on using the overlay icon at the bottom left corner. Select a design file from the File Selector in the left panel. The selected design is displayed above the orthomosaic.

Overlaying a PDF/CAD Floorplan

PDF overlays allow you to compare a floorplan against the drone orthomosaic.

To overlay:

  1. Open the Orthomosaic Viewer. Select a PDF from the available design files.

  2. The floorplan is displayed over the orthomosaic. Use the Transparency slider to adjust visibility.

As you move the slider, the overlay updates immediately, allowing you to inspect both the design and the site simultaneously.

If multiple floorplans have been uploaded to the project: Open the File Selector. Choose the design you want to display.

You can switch between available files at any time during your viewing session.

Managing CAD Layers

For supported CAD files, Track3D provides layer controls that allow you to focus on specific parts of the drawing.

  • Show or hide individual layers.

  • Toggle line groups.

  • Filter layers by discipline, such as: Civil ;Structural ;MEP

This makes it easier to review only the information relevant to your task.

Note: Layer visibility depends on the structure and contents of the uploaded CAD file.

Adjusting Overlay Transparency

Use the Transparency slider in the left panel to control how the overlay appears.

Moving the slider lets you:

  • Reveal more of the orthomosaic.

  • Highlight the design drawing.

  • Quickly compare planned and actual site conditions.

Transparency updates are applied in real time.

Viewer Controls

The Orthomosaic Viewer supports standard navigation while overlay is active.

Available controls include:

  • Zoom

  • Pan

  • Toggle Overlay On/Off

  • Reset Transparency

Your selected design and transparency settings remain active throughout your current session.

Frequently Asked Questions:

My floorplan does not appear?

Verify that the design file has been uploaded to the project and is supported (PDF, DXF, DWG, or supported shapefile format).

I don't see CAD layer controls?

Layer controls are only available when the uploaded CAD file contains identifiable layers or line groups.

The overlay seems slow to load?

Large CAD files or high-resolution Ortho mosaics may take slightly longer to render. Once loaded, navigation and transparency adjustments should remain smooth.

Can I overlay more than one design file?

You can select multiple uploaded files. Support for displaying multiple overlays simultaneously depends on your project configuration.

Does changing transparency modify the original design?

No. Transparency only changes how the overlay is displayed in the viewer and does not affect the uploaded file.

Does the overlay replace the orthomosaic?

No. The orthomosaic remains in the base layer, while the design file is displayed as an overlay above it.

Will my overlay settings be remembered?

Yes. Your selected design file and transparency level persist for the duration of your current session.

Can I reposition or rotate the overlay?

Not in the initial release. Alignment tools such as move, rotate, scale, and snap-to-reference are planned for a future update.

How do you assign sheets to overlay?

If you continue to encounter issues, contact Track3D support at [email protected] for further assistance.
